Supported content formats

MyPass DRM supports PDF (.pdf), Word (.doc, .docx), PowerPoint (.ppt, .pptx) and video (.mp4, .mov, .mkv, .webm, .m4v — up to 5 GB per file). Office documents are converted to PDF and protected; video is transcoded to an encrypted stream. Excel, OpenDocument, RTF, standalone images and standalone audio are not currently accepted. Each protected item is delivered through the protected web viewer or the MyPass Secure Reader application — the tables below cover outputs and limitations per format.

Office files are rendered to PDF server-side, and the rendered PDF flows through the DRM pipeline — watermarking, access rules, and activity records apply to it exactly as they do to a native PDF. The original Office file is retained, encrypted at rest.

Other document formats, including Excel, OpenDocument, and RTF, are not currently accepted. Contact Kprise if your library depends on them.

Images #

Image files (JPG, PNG, TIFF, GIF, BMP) are not currently accepted as protected content. Images embedded inside a PDF or Office document are protected as part of that document.

Uploaded video is transcoded before it becomes available; its status moves from Protecting to Protected when processing completes. Playback uses encrypted HTTP Live Streaming inside the Secure Reader, with decryption keys bound to the reader's authorized device. Access policies — expiration, device limits, revocation — apply to video the same way they apply to documents.

Audio #

Standalone audio files (MP3, WAV, AAC, and similar) are not currently accepted as protected content. Audio tracks inside a protected video are delivered as part of the video stream.

How protected content is delivered #

Protected web viewer
A shareable link that opens the document in the browser. The viewer streams a watermarked rendering of the source and is available immediately after upload; access is evaluated against the policy at every open.
Secure Reader package (.mppdf)
An encrypted package for the MyPass Secure Reader desktop application, available once processing completes. Decryption is bound to the reader's authorized device.
Secure video stream
Transcoded, encrypted streaming video played inside the Secure Reader application.
API distribution links
Protecting a document through the API returns the web-viewer URL and the Secure Reader package URL in one response, ready to deliver from your own application.

In every case the pattern is the same: your source file is the input, MyPass DRM produces a protected output, and the reader experiences controlled access — never a loose copy of the original.

A desktop application for Windows and macOS (Intel and Apple silicon) that opens .mppdf packages and protected video, with automatic updates.

Sending documents for signature #

Protected documents can be sent for signature using MyPass DRM's built-in e-signature workflow — the recipient signs from a secure link, and the signed document keeps its access policy. See document signing.
